Jammu, May 25 (KNO): People of the twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch have defeated the purpose of terrorists to create an atmosphere of fear and came out in record numbers to exercise their franchise in the sixth phase of Parliamentary elections. There was no sign of any fear of terrorists and people were seen standing in long queues to wait for their turn to cast their votes. Even the border areas witnessed a huge rush of people standing in long queues and celebrating the festival of democracy. According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the two terror attacks in the past five months couldn’t deter the voters of twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch and they voted for the betterment of their areas. On December 21, 2023 terrorists had attacked an Army vehicle in Bafliaz area of Surankote on Mughal road in Poonch district in which four Army soldiers were killed. On May 4, one Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel was killed in another ambush attack in Sani forest area near Surankote. The perpetrators of both the attacks are still at large and the threat of these terrorists launching another attack keeps looming large. But the kind of security put in place and determination of people to come out to vote has given a strong message to terrorists that they can’t become hurdle in between people and democracy—(KNO)
